On monday, we took a train from Ukfield station(we walked from kim's house, about ten minutes)and took it to London Bridge. We were early for the train so we stopped at Mcdonalds and got a quick bite to eat. It tasted a little bit different than ours, and when we asked for orange juice, they gave us a choice of fizzy or still. We chose still, and it turned out to be much like flat orange soda. How healthy! They also served us at our seats! Why cant our Mcdonalds be that good?
Our train ride was about an hour, and it brought us straight to London bridge, where we walked, and walked, and walked. We turned left, right, up and down and walked down whatever street looked nice. When wandering got old, we took the tube to Carnaby square- famous for its many fashion designers and top end clothing. Me in my rolling stones t shirt and ashley in her shorts were not the right attire for such places, so we were treated like bums in them! We were shocked by how modern everything was- very eclectic and unusual. (see the shoe store picture) Try finding that in the states!!
From there we walked a couple miles to the palace, where we ate baguettes in the park under a large tree. We stayed at the palace for a while, but after Ashley had taken about 80 pictures of the same couple of buildings I confiscated the camera. Our travels took us to the Guards museum, where we saw an interesting depiction of the OTHER side of the revolutionary war. Right next door was the guards chapel, which was very outstanding.
We then followed Big Ben to the parliment building, where we found a large statue of a familiar face (again see pictures). We went into a particularly extravanant building, but when we tried to begin our tour of it, we were stopped by a guard, who informed us that this was the court building, where trials were going on, not a tourist attraction. Whoops! Big ben was very impressive, as was the parliment building.
We walked across the river to the Eye of London, but when we found that the queue (the wait in britian english) was close to an hour, we went to the London Aquarium instead. Not quite like the one at home. We then ate dinner in a local bar. We then headed back to the train station, where we missed our train by about 30 seconds. We then had to queue for 45 minutes, where we explored the train station. When we went to use the toilet, it costs 40 pents (80 cents) just to enter it! What a ripoff! Ill go on a wall before ill pay to use a bathroom.
Anyway, we caught the train back and arrived at about 8 30, and walked back home. We ate dinner on the patio, and went to BED...as our surprise was coming early in the morning....
