Hello from Dehradun!
Wow where do I start?! This palce is CRAZY. Delhi is a total gong show, people sleeping on the streets, on top of buses, in carts. Garbage and cows all over the place, kinda stinky and gross, but pretty cool. Lots of poor people, as to be expected. It's the kids that really get to you, running around barefoot and squatting in the streets. Did I mention the garbage?! The plane ride was OK, a bit of turbulance that sent me into an anxiety attack but Kristin handled it well. We stayed the night at a guest house but it was so hot that there wasn't a whole lot of sleeping going on. It is wildly hot here, when you get dressed it feels like your clothes just came out of the dryer. We left on the train at 5:45 this morning to go to Dehradun, we were in the fancy train so it was fairly comfortable. The regular train is pretty much a cattle car. The three of us (we met up with another girl on the trip, Sajel, really nice) have jut been exploring today. Dehradun is smaller, 500,000 people, but still lots of cows, and yes, garbage. We did some shopping and I got an outfit. My life flashed before my eyes multiple times today on the rickshaws. Driving them is a sport, and these guys take it to the limit! They are basically turbo-charged golf carts. There are no lanes, no lights, no rules, and lots of cows and people on the road. I bet if I stuck my arm out it would be gone in seconds. Quite the adrenalin rush. Tonight we are having dinner with our host family, and we should meet the rest of the group tomorow. I am at an internet cafe which is close to our house so I'll be able to check emails while I am here.
I am heading back out to the heat now!

guest house
We are very interested to hear about the house you are staying in and the food. Mom and I ate a kind of Indian soup tonite for dinner and we wondered if you were having something similar.
Waiting for the next installment. Much love Mom and Dad
