After what seemed like an eternal flight of . . . 35 hours, I think, we are in Taipei, Taiwan.  We completely missed Monday except for the first 1/2 hour or so while we were boarding and taxiing before taking off, and approximately six hours of flight before crossing the International Date Line.  Thanks to a glass of wine with dinner and a dose of melatonin, Tom was able to sleep for a couple of hours and I slept better.  Oh yeah, and my neck pillow bought at SFO.  Tom watched movies while I plugged in my headphones and listened to Pachelbel's Canon in D with ocean sounds.  I slept.  As I write this -- a rough draft on my phone -- it is about 9:30 a.m. in SLC but 11:30 p.m. in Hanoi.  Our body clocks are going to be soooooo screwed up.

I had heard that China Airlines was a wonderful airline.  It probably is for all those short Asians. No leg room, seats scrunched together so there is no elbow room.  I told Tom that if we are ever on a flight for this long again we are going to be in business class and I don't give a damn what it costs. I hate flying.  The end.  The positive aspects of China Airlines are the beautiful flight attendants and real food -- something I would guess even Delta would provide on an international flight.  First run movies to choose from -- "Argo", "Sessions", "Lincoln", and others.  "Argo" seemed appropriate because, after 14 hours, we felt like we had been taken hostage with no escape in sight.

So, here we are in Asia.  Checking off the continents -- North America, Central America (is it considered North or South?), Europe, and ??? Are Israel and Jordan considered Africa?  Or Europe?  Or Asia?  Even my well-traveled and historian husband couldn't answer that with any certainty.

Tom here...

I am such a planner!  Signing up for a Vietnam Airways cheap upgrade plan, we struck gold!  The airline gods heard Dayna bitch -- we have been upgraded to Business Class on the next leg of our trip between Taipei and Hanoi.  Alleluia!!!  In a few more hours we will finally be in Vietnam and we will continue writing today's blog and add pictures to yesterday's or was it two days ago?
