We set off at 7.30am in heavy rain but luckily it cleared up by the time we arrived at our first destination.   The cliffs are pretty impressive and we looked them from all 3 viewing platforms but to say it was windy is very much an understatement! The watch tower was the worst for wind and we had to battle to stay on our feet which caused much laughter.

A short drive down the road was the burial tomb at Poulnabrone Dolman dating back to 2500BC and has the remains of 30 people. It was much smaller than expected but interesting to see something so old. The landscape in this part of Ireland is like nothing we have seen before. Large areas of rocky grass land and huge plateaus if rocks. It almost felt like we were on another planet.

From Poulnabrone dolman we drove through the Connemara National Park and the Mann Valley to Sligo - Arrived at the B&B only for them to tell us we were booked in the previous night - although this posed a bit of a problem it all worked out fine as we found a hotel in the centre of town and had a good laugh about it in the pub down the road.

We have driven approximately 2000 kms so far and to all of those who told us the roads in The Republic of  Ireland are poor its not true, we found the roads very well maintained and the country roads are much better than some of those in England.
