Our trek across to Melbourne started in zest today with our first stop of the day at a little village called Hahndorf (funnily enough a German town) not far from Adelaide! It was very quaint and had lots of little shops selling souvenirs, fudge and lederhosen of course! We had a quick wander around and had morning coffee in the very German pub complete with Bavarian foot tapping tunes and a log fire!

Designated driver had a bit of a trek on his hands today as we headed south towards the coast! Senior Smedleys were happy in the back though as we saw so many birds again - seriously there´s so many compared to the UK! We stopped at Lake Alberta for lunch which was again really picturesque before getting back on the road again for our final destination of the day - Naracoorte and it´s fossilised caves! How can I not tell you about our most exciting happening of the afternoon....our first sight of the big lobster! Oh yes! If anyone´s read Bill Bryson´s Down Under book you´ll know what we´re talking about! Basically the Ozzie´s have an obsession with big things and have them outside their shops, motels, resthouses, etc! Well our claim to fame was that we saw the BIG LOBSTER! Think it´s basically to provide abit of light relief after all the driving!

We finally arrived at Naracoorte and it´s caves and had time to quickly look around it´s very interactive museum complete with prehistoric animals that moved, roared and everything! It was actually very cool and had lots of explanations about how the earth used to be millions of years ago etc. The cave itself was massive very eery walking around as the sensors turned the lights on as you walked through! Spooky eh? We then ventured into town and took Senior Smedleys on their first experience of turning up in a place and finding somewhere to stay! We had HUGE success though and found a family room for a bargain price in no time at all! And in even less time, found seats at the bar! Jeppy you would have loved it...there were about 7 TV screens dedicated to gambling and enough pokies to keep you amused for a month! Had some great food and Junior Smedley Lightweight i.e. me had an early night while the others stayed up for a few more bevvies! Paul consequently came back and snored so loudly, I had to hold his nose to make him stop!!!!!
