On the move again...we now started heading East to the Vietnamese border via a little town called Paksan! In the Lonely Planet guide it basically said there was not alot there but this was where we really started to see the real Laos...FINALLY! And it all happened by accident...

We decided to stop at a Wat on the way to Paksan which is supposed to be the second most important for pilgrims in Southern Laos as it holds a Buddha footprint. We caught a very crowded and very friendly bus (we got offered allsorts to eat!) and got off in what seemed to be the middle of no-where apart from 2 signs and a Wat! Rather than heading to the Wat at the side of the road, we decided that the famous one must be the one that was 2km away! So once again in the heat of the day, rucksacks and all we started down a dirt track to this Wat! You guessed was the wat at the side of the road with the Buddha footprint but it was the best detour we've made yet! This was exactly how we expected Laos to be...dirt tracks with kids giggling following you down the road! Everyone shouting 'Sabadeeeee' at the top of their voices! And the wat itself...even though it wasn't very big...was set on a little hill right next to the Mekong! FAB!

We saw the Buddha footprint as well but to be honest the little wat at the end of the dirt track was lots better! We ended the day in Paksan eating dinner in a very cute bar overlooking the Mekong! Excellent! And even more sunset photos....
