Instead of making our way back through to Bangkok to head North again we decied to go cross country to pick up the Northern train route up through Lopburi, Phitsanulok and Lampang before reaching Chiang Mai! This proved to be a great experience and we saw the real diversity and changing of scenery as we moved slowly up North!
We took public buses through local villages and never really got out of third gear!!! Fantastic! Past paddie fields, wats and village people (no not YMCA!)
Lopburi turned out to be a fantastic little town set on a river with monkeys everywhere!! They especially liked it outside of our bedroom window - must be Paul's affinity with monkeys! We spent our time wandering around soaking up the atmosphere and then bought a 4 pack each and sat on the banking in the middle of town surrounded by locals watching the world go by while the 'Festival of Monkeys' was going on! Classy eh?
