Today I took the elevated train to Odaiba, a man-made island in Tokyo Bay. The island is home to many businesses, shopping centers and entertainment. The museum choices are Maritime, Gas Science, and Future Science.
The architectural gem Convention Center has the Tully's Gallery. One of the shopping centers is decorated like Venice and only has shops for women. There are two giant ferris wheels, amusement parks and Tokyo's most romantic beach boasting a replica of the Statue of Liberty. You wouldn't swim in the bay, though.
After all that stimulation I needed to sit with a cup of coffee. At the cafe there was a ten foot diameter "water park" with seven fountains choreographically spraying up from the sidewalk. A cheery three year old ran right into the middle of it, fully dressed shoes and all. For half an hour I watched her laugh and run from spraying fount to spraying fount. I saw no apparent parent, she seemed not to care if anyone was there. I loved the pure joy. It didn't cost a dime. Finally, a grandpa finished his coffee, stood up, called to her, she came running to her Papa who picked her up, put her in the child seat on his bike and rode away. YEA Papa!
Tomorrow we are off to Beijing.
