What I did
My Son, Bana Hills, Hoi An
Today we got an earlier start, right after breakfast at the usual Rock Salt. We hired a taxi for the day again like yesterday. Since we are planning to go a bit further, they wanted 1.75M VND, but it ended up being 2.4M VND at the end since we doubled our routing a bit.
We headed out first to My Son. Its a smaller version of Angkor Wat. The site was so so at best and nothing to special about it. I think its because its more like ruins already. After that we were suppose to head of Hoi An to try on the clothing but it was still too early so we went to Bana Hills first (that is why the taxi fare went up). Bana Hill was an old French Hill Station. They are redeveloping the area into a Fantasy Land at the very top of the mountain. The cable car ride is suppose to be one of the longest in the world (I highly doubt that claim since I think just the ski lift at Whistler is even longer). The ride was 300K VND per person but the ride up is very beautiful with lots of water falls and pools underneath. We arrived at the Bana Hills station where we saw some temples before continuing on to Fantasy Land. It turned out this is still under construction of the castle part but there is a mini amusement park that is already open indoors. We took a few rides and reminds me of Seattle Center.
On the cable car ride down, we met a few Americans that are working on the project and I guess at peak there are 10,000 guests a day but not we'll see when its finished how it turns out. From the pictures it looks like it a European village.
After Bana Hills, we headed to Hoi An to try on all our clothing before heading to dinner at the Lighthouse restaurant across the river. After dinner, we found out that the Lighthouse building is for sale at $295K - tempting if I were to retire :)
