Hello Everyone,

We are staying at my A. Ilonka's home in Miskolc. We are having a great time. Yesterday we figured out the family history. It was very challenging since I do not speak Hungarian and my relatives speak very little English. A pen and paper goes a long way. Luckily my A. Ilonka has an English-Hungarian dictionary that we are using very much.

Yesterday - I (V) did something very stupid. I saw my Aunt's cute Hungarian dog and rushed to say hello. I didn't hear her say that the dog nips people and unfortunately the dog bit my left hand. It hurt a lot but today there is no bruising so I'm very lucky! Now I know to listen more carefully to dog owners. Not all dogs are totally friendly. I think my Aunt's dog is still adorable.

We drove to another village to visit your Aunt Elizabeth - it was very interesting - she's the "perfect image" of an old Eastern European Lady (Dave here btw). I'll upload the photos sometime - but I'm sure you have an image in your mind. She was so happy to see Veronica. I mean who isn't - but she was especially happy!!!! We had more food, more booze and moved on for a winery tour!

By Friday Veronica's left hand is almost completely healed. She has two small marks on the back of her hand where the dog bit. The swelling is 99% gone and there is no sign of infection so she was extremely lucky. We are still keeping a close eye on it. She has been staying away from all Hungarian dogs. I guess Canadian dogs are a little more friendly

We had a funny visit with Veronica's Cousin Steve. He drove up from Budapest to visit with Veronica and his mother Julia - just for the evening. Steve was a very nice person - we shared all sorts of laughs, pictures and tried to figure out how they were all related.

Finally Steve said he met Veronica at the end of the Summer of 1969. Veronica looked blankly at Steve wondering what he meant. It turned Steve visited Canada in 1969 to work for her uncle and saw Veronica when she was only 4 weeks old.

We're back in Budapest reading ourselves for our flight to Greece.

Hugs,

David and Veronica
