This is a really funny little hot springs. It is the only naturally occurring geyser in Oregon and the pool is fantastic.
It is amazing that it was built in 1925 and has bankrupted all that either built it, developed it or ran it and now Jimmy and Pixie want to sell.
It is like that pub we all know somewhere that changes hands every 2 years. First it's a pub, then a Mexican Cantina, then a Tapas bar then an Indian take away. But nothing works.
Had a 5 mile walk into town today
These places are not prosperous enough to knock the old stuff down, so it survives.
Went to see a swimming competition in the local outdoor pool and whilst I was mooching I met some guys we had met before several times in their tricked up Jeep.
They are doing the TAT and we have met them several times on route. Their car is a proper tool that they bought and built for one thing. The TAT. Massive tyres, lifted chassis, competition shocks, winch, lifting jacks, you name it.
They were amazed to see me and said they couldn't believe we had got this far. I felt embarrassed to say that we had split up so said Bill was back at the motel.
We talked about the route and he said he had done 7 miles of the Black Dragon Canyon and turned around. He said he saw motorcycle tracks and knew it was us
They did 7 miles, we did 40. So I don't feel so bad.
This afternoon in the mineral spa pool as i was soaking up some rays and some minerals, Pixie came flying into the pool area all excited. A couple had arrived from London, Bedford in fact.
They are touring the US in a 1932 model A Ford hot rod.
It is beautiful.
David and Leslie own this car and keep it in Denver and every year come over and travel the US going to car shows. A great couple.
Later in the evening I was properly chatted up by two ladies from Oregon who stay here every year.
It was an interesting experience.
In fact it was three ladies because after the pool I had a shower and put some after shave on to hide the smell of my clothes.
I walked in to the bar and Pixie just melted and Patricia and Pattie made a bee line for me. They don't seem to be used to guys that smell nice. A tip for The Mercans. A cheap bottle of after shave and a cockney accent. Try it.
After a few beers that I didn't have to pay for iI was invited back to the car park in front of their motel room for a BBQ and Margaritas.
Fortunately the BBQ failed to light so there was no dinner and an early night fouled their plans I think.
Having returned to bed early I heard two single cylinder bikes ride by my window at about 11pm.
Two Trans Ammers had arrived. 11 o'clock! I had to say hello. Ok they were in their mid twenties but they said they were averaging 300 miles a day and camping most nights and had followed every inch of the trail
Blane had come off two days ago badly and thinks he has broken his foot but has been unable to take his right boot off since, so isn't sure.
Jeez, I really feel like a fraud, having missed so much of it, staying in motels and moaning about the state of the pool!
However when I mentioned Black Dragon Canyon to them, they went blank. The TAT isn't a 100% fixed route and their route didn't include the now famous canyon.
These boys are hard core and have asked me to ride with them for the last two days of the TAT.
I told them I was gay and would be sticking to tarmac now. (Which actually isn't true.) (Well both the gay bit and I have planned my own dirt road section to get me to Port Orford).
