After a twenty hour stint by commercial flight and taxi rides,  I'm now back in the sunshine state of California USA
The aircraft is now fitted with the long range ferry tanks and the HF radio which is essential for the Pacific Ocean crossing. I need to check out the systems prior to my departure to Hawaii to evaluate the installation. The radio alone has a 130 page manual which looks more complex than flying the actual aircraft
The weather today was not suitable for the flight test which has to be done in good visual conditions and within 50 miles of the departure airfield.
These next few legs will be the most challenging of the journey so far. It is 6500 nautical miles from California to the East coast of Australia, mostly over the sea. This amounts to 40 hours of flying which will cross the ICTZ, an area where the Northern and Southern hemisphere's meet and is notorious for thunderstorms and tropical cyclones.
I hope to cross the Pacific in four legs, the longest being 2350 miles, or about 14 to 15 hours non stop !
The aircraft now looks like a flying fuel bowser. It's capacity is now 1000 liters or 250 US gallons which should give me about 16 or more hours of range. I have been briefed by other ferry pilots on the operation of these systems, which are somewhat more complex than the standard installation. The visibility is reduced to my right, and the machine is now most definitely a single place aircraft.
I now have the temporary certificate which allows me to fly at 25% over gross weight or an additional 800 lbs, making a total of 4250lbs. It will be "interesting" to experience the performance in this condition. I have some details to finalize on the aircraft tomorrow and I hope to download some pictures for your perusal.

Looking forward to seeing you in Hawaii with your grass skirt on and your welcoming sei around your neck.

Well, here it is - the crossing of a lifetime. There are many travelling with you - in spirit, of course! Hope it's a smooth one. Look forward to news from Hawaii (and whether or not you're lured to stay there permanently .....!)
