Getting away from the big cities, I made a dash for the High Tatras in Eastern Slovakia.  Although some of the mountain range falls within Polish territory, Slovakia is home to the majority of the High Tatras.  I had had enough of big cities for a while so I decided to take a trip East and do some hiking.  The view, the climb and the prices were amazing.  The hostel was 12 Euros a night and I got a room all to myself.  That's less then I paid for an eight person dorm back in Bratislava.  Dinner was amazing, and only 3 Euros.  What a deal!  The hiking was great as well.  Clearly marked stone paths gave way to amazing views.  I met some Hungarians along the way that seemed a wee lost, so I ended up directing them back to the railway.  When they asked if I was a local I let them know I was from Canada.  They smiled and said small world and shook my hand.  Hilarious!

The hike up was splendid.  Nothing like you would get back home in B.C. but still a good time. The path was laid with flat stones, making it easy to find your way.  I made it to my destination and had lunch, dumplings in a sheep cheese sauce.  Del-ectible!  The hike down was not so pleasant.  The rain was starting to come down and visibility was limited.  I could only see about 10-15 meters ahead of myself and got entirely soaked hiking back to my hostel.  Definitely a good experience and gave me a lot of time to reflect on the previous time in big cities, and what it's all about.  Two nights was just right and I'd love to go back and hike further along the Tatras.
