The Cachalote I is a beautiful 30 metre-long, steel-hulled motor schooner, designed in California and rebuilt and completely refurbished in 2002.
The fully air-conditioned Cachalote I accommodates 16 passengers in her 8 cabins (7 with double lower and single upper berths, 1 with double lower) and each has an en-suite bathroom with hot/cold water showers.
Along with dining and lounge rooms, there is ample space on 3 wooden decks, with comfortable seats to relax in the shade or enjoy the sun during the cruise.
We flew in to the galapagos on Wednesday after a 5am start - we had someone pick us up from the hotel and guide us through the busyness of quito airport - she was worth her weight in gold - nearly. I had a stressful Wednesday - apologies to tracey - i was a jerk. Sorry.
Met the boat and crew and fellow passengers. What a foreign place this galapagos is - we have got into shorts at last - it is quite hot - this place is set up for westerners with money.
Amazing birds flying overhead and bombing the water for fish.
The boat looks better in the photos but it is pretty good - you develop a bit of envy - i know how much we paid for our boat - others must have paid a small fortune for theirs. We also have some camera envy - you should see the machines these people carry - they spend more time looking at a screen and less looking at the real wildlife - ill get some postcards and be happy.
