Kickin it in Cairo and Pharonic Fatigue

We arrive in Cairo at 2:45 am and our trip begins.  After sleeping for a few hours we meet up with our UW friend (and past travel buddy of mine) Corrie Stranjord and some of her friends at the King Tut hostel in Cairo. 

Corrie and friends had just finished a 2 week program of cultural interaction between UW and American University in Cairo.  Because of this, we were able to hang out and make friends with all of their Egyptian friends.  We were so lucky to be able to meet these Egyptians as they were so welcoming and hospitable; they really made our Cairo/Alexandria experience memorable. 

The first day in Cairo we went to the Egyptian Museum.  The museum contains so many incredible artifacts that it was impossible to fully appreciate it.  Highlights included King Tuts room with his golden mask and sarcophagi, and a mummy room that contained many of Egypt's most famous Pharaohs.  After 3 hours of wandering around, our guide book, Lonely Planet Egypt, summarized how we felt with the phrase "Pharonic Fatigue." 



Later that night we went out to dinner, then went to a few places that some of the AUC students like to hang out.
