Frankfurt is a nice city.  It is quite industrial. The trains took us from the airport to downtown in about 20 minutes. Amy got Starbucks in the train station. After that we walked to a nice park and watched a couple dogs roll around.  We saw the main shopping district and sat by a fountain for a while. David bought some McDonald's fries for a snack.  (15 euro cents for a ketchup packet...  Do you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese?).  Apparently, we both have a soft spot for our corporate food chains in foreign countries.

As we were waiting for our flight to Israel (it boarded at 10 pm) something GREAT happened. Neither of us were in the best of moods as we were jet lagged (the night before was an 11 hour flight overnight plus we lost 9 hours.  Our red eye to Tel Aviv was getting in at 3:15 am and we weren't even sitting next to each other.  Then we heard the announcement.  Our flight to Tel-Aviv was overbooked by 36 people.  We jumped at the opportunity.

Lufthansa put us on a flight the next morning where we would be sitting next to each other.  They put us up at the Sheratan, a NICE airport hotel. They gave us each 25 euro vouchers for room service or a nice meal at one of their restaurants.  We slept much better than we would have on the plane and the breakfast in the morning was one of the greatest we have ever had.  The lox was great, the omelet bar was great, the cheeses and bread and fruit buffets were great. This is the airport from our window:

After a nice well rested night we flew to Sophia, Bulgaria.  After a 2 hour layover we flew to Tel Aviv. When we got in to tel Aviv we took the train to Haifa then a cab to our apartment to finally arrive at 10pm August 2nd.

Lufthansa deposited 400 euros in each of our bank accounts for our trouble.
