We woke up early for a 5:15 cab to the airport where we flew to Eilat.  The cab driver was very nice, offering reg lozenges for Reg's perpetual cough.  The flight was quick as was our transition into a cab to the Jordanian border.  There we went through all the bureaucracy (border tax, passport check, immigration, etc), and then walked across the dusty no-man's-land to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan where we were greeted by very large pictures of their royal family.

On the other side there was a guy waiting for us with a sign who ushered us through the visa process and introduced us to our guide for the next three days: Abu Rabia, a friendly 26-year old Jordanian who introduced us to local music such as Akon, R Kelly and Justin Timberlake.

From the border he drove us to Wadi Rum, a desert full of awesome mountains and rock formations.  There we took a jeep tour (really it was a pick up truck tour) through the desert where we climbed on all kinds of stuff.  The highlight was scaling an eight(ish) story sand dune/rock formation which had a panoramic view of the whole desert.  Running down the dune was pretty hot on the ankles and left us with a lot of sand in our shoes as a souvenir.

After Wadi Rum we went to our hotel (a four-star upgrade per the recommendation of the travel agent) which was really nice.  We hung out by the pool and played ping pong before going to a Turkish Bath which involved a too hot sauna, a hot stone table and a sketchy dude scrubbing us down.  It was an experience.  Physically and socially uncomfortable, but an experience nonetheless.

That night we went for shisha (smoking tobacco from a hookah) and beers with Rabia.  We were total lightweights while he was a monster on the pipe.  I guess we still have a lot to learn.  From there we went to bed early for the next morning.
