I spent christmas at a rather excentric family run hostel in the suburb hills of Valparasio. The hostel, is a large mansion that has seen better day and was owned by a very friendly German woman (Martina) and her equally madcap Chilean husband (Enzo), with 3 kids, 1 dog and 4 other German guests, on boxing day a couple of New Zelanders turned up on there motorbikes that they plan to ride around south america. To say it was Quazy (Matinas favourite expression) would be an understatement.

Valparasio is Chiles major Pacific coast port, it is quite quaint, the downtown port area is a bit industrial, but it is surronded on all sides by hills, where the rather bohemian suburbs are with old fasioned elevators that whisk you up and down.
