The trail was a real Inca trail, used to travel by foot between different villages
On the last day we got woken up at 3am so that we could get to Machu Picchu in time for sunrise. It felt like I hadnīt slept at all. Some people wake up earlier, at 2am, so that they can be the first there, mad! When we finally got there it was so cloudy that we couldnīt even see sunrise. How disappointing, i would have preferred the extra 4 hours sleep! By 10am the clouds had all cleared and we could see the whole sight. It was worth the wait! The Inca city was huge, situated between two mountains. It was hard to comprehend how the hell they built it there. The way they built it was amazing too, all the stone rocks are put together perfectly like a puzzle (see photos), no cement was used at all
As it got late, more people started arriving, you could barely move in some places so we decided to leave. We got the bus to the nearby town Aqua Callientes where we relaxed in the hot springs. The whole experience was nice but I woudnīt recommend anyone doing the Inca trail as thereīs too many people and the sights you see on the way are nothing compared to Machu Picchu. The best thing to do is just to get the train directly to Machu Picchu from Cusco, but hurry as there are talks of them stopping letting people onto the sight as itīs slowly sinking due to the amount of people on it....!
