Well after 5 and a half hours in the Calgary airport and a four hour flight to Mazatlan and then a two hour ride to Teacapan, I´m finally here! I got up on Sunday morning and looked out my windows over the beautifully landscaped yard to the beach and ocean just beyond. It was so nice to walk outside and drink my coffee in the warm sunshine. There were two beautiful birds in the birdbath - one bright yellow and the other red breasted (which is what I´ll be if I don´t slap some lotion on!). There were also a bunch (flock??) of pelicans flying and swimming and dipping for fish. It´s about 27C during the day with a cooling breeze off the ocean and it goes down to about 17C at night which makes for comfortable sleeping. I decided to walk into town (about 15 min.) and had a typical Teacapan experience; there were three burros walking on the side of the road toward me, we gave each other a cautious look on the way by. We were both probably thinking the same thing, why´s this dumb ass walking down the road!? Just before the arch into the village, a young boy on horseback herded his cattle across the road and off into the vegetation on the other side. After Emailing Sally and those who had Emailed me, I made my way to Carol´s house, a women we met down here last year, to say hello and she was just sitting down to lunch with five others. After saying I would return later she insisted that I join them. She had made a beautiful pork roast with potatoes, vegies and salad and a nice cold Tecate to wash it down. Such wonderful, friendly people down here! They were all speaking Spanish and trying to include me but I basically just smiled and nodded. I can now empathize with visitors to our country who don´t speak the language but try to fit in. Carol did at times translate and speak English to me which I appreciated. Afterwards two of the guys were heading to a Super Bowl party to which I politely declined. As much as I would have like to have seen the game, It was about a 15 minute drive up the road and still feeling sleep deprived from the night before and not in control of how I would get back to my bed, I decided to stick close to home.
Today is Tuesday and Carnival day here. There is a parade (small but wonderful to see) and a midway with rides that I´m sure would never been alowed to operate back home. I will report on the festivities tomorrow. Anyone that cares to write, I will return your Email.
