For some reason this entry didn't get done and so was added in after we returned home. It is therefore brief due to my fuzzy memories of the day...
We woke up and I'm sure had a quick breakfast before heading for the bus to Bowness, which is basically a part of Windermere but technically the two are distinct townships. The bus ride was literally only about 10 minutes, mainly due to a couple of stops on the way.
Once in Bowness, we got tickets for the boat up to Ambleside (which is the northern side of the lake) and return to Bowness (which is roughly in the middle). We also got a little bit of food from the cafe here then boarded the boat and found a seat inside. Along the short ride (probably about 30 minutes each way) the captain pointed out some of the landmarks and buildings dotted along the shoreline. There wasn't much, but there were a few mansions and a castle on the west bank, as well as a few islands in the middle. We docked briefly in Ambleside where some of the passengers changed, then headed back down.
After the boat trip we had a little more food before heading back to Windermere. We collected our bags from the hostel, walked over the road and got the train to Stirling.
