What should have been a 4 and half hour journey turned into about a 6 hour journey, resulting in Rachel getting very tired, hungry and frustrated (it didn't help that she had a headache either). Again, our journey was made up of a few train rides. The first few of these went without a hitch. It was when we were waiting for the Glasgow train that the trouble started. The train we were supposed to catch was delayed by about 50minutes, due to a lack of train crews. Our next train connection had a window of about 10minutes, so obviously we would miss it to.

I found a train person and asked them about whether there were later connections and how to get to Windermere, and they said to get on another Glasgow train and get off at another station and catch a train from there to Windermere. So, we got the Glasgow train, got off at the station we were told to and found no trains to Windermere. We quickly found another train man, who said we should have gotten off at the next station (just as the train was leaving). He didn’t know why we would have been told to get off here, but gave us another itinerary to get to Windermere. We had to wait at the station for a while before another Glasgow train came (delayed again slightly, resulting in Rachel kicking her bag across the room in frustration). Finally the train came, took us to the next station and we were finally on the last leg to Windermere.

In town, we walked just over the road to where the hostel was. After knocking on the door and getting no answer, we rang the number and managed to get a room. We got a private double room for the price of a dorm room (saving about 4pounds) and Rachel was finally happy. It was too late to go and find some dinner, so we had some microwave popcorn before going to bed.

That would have been a bit frustrating but glad you finally got to Windermere. Will you go for a cruise on the lake or don't they run them in winter. Make sure you buy some Kendall mint cake while you are in the Lake District. Elizabeth said she had contacted you yesterday. Did Rachel meet them when they were overin Oz? I think she did. That is great that you are going up to Aunty May's. She will really enjoy having you. Just hope they are not snowed in as there place is quite isolated. I assume they will come into Inverness to pick you up from the station. Will you visit Allison and Bernard when you are back in England? Have a nice time too with Iain and Gillian.
