Where I stayed
Wonga Beach Caravan Park
We arrived in Cairns and checked into a hostel for the first time since Asia. We spent the first couple of days looking for a campervan to purchase to travel around Australia in. We found a campervan we were pleased with and had to wait a few days until it was ready for us. In the days that followed we spent some time relaxing in the sun by the lagoon (when it wasn't raining).
We booked ourselves onto a boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We were fortunate to have a sunny day. Dave did three scuba dives and Nat went snorkelling at two sites. Both of us saw a Hawkesbill Turtle. We saw lots of coral and loads of colourful fish. It was a lovely boat with a great crew and we had a great day.
Once we picked up the campervan and bought other items we needed we were able to get on our way. We travelled north to Wonga Beach where we spent the night before taking the two minute ferry trip over to Cape Tribulation. The weather was really bad and due to the pouring rain we were not able to see it at its best. It seemed like a beautiful place.
We drove back to Cairns and the rain gradually got worst until there was a bog outside the campervan and you could practically swim to the camp kitchen!!
