Namaste
It was a few short hops on a few buses to Gokarna, but it still took us most of the day. We weren't sure what it would be like as backpackers tend to sometimes have an objective view on places that are 'amazing'. What we did find was a stunning, quiet beautiful beach and as close as you can come to paradise in India (where else would you find cows sat on the beach. We checked in and immediately fell in love with the place, mainly down to the two litters of puppies running around the place and also the fact we had a great little beach hut for £2 and the sunset was lovely.
The next day was spent (once again) lazing on the beach, with the main activity being a bit of body surfing and deciding what to eat next (the food was much cheaper and the seafood was just as nice). The only down side of the place was the Indian tourists that came down (all groups of men) just to see girls in bikinis. Now fellas, some of us will admit that whilst on the beach we may have a sneaky, tiny, minuscule look at the girls (not me of course) but these guys just walk from one end of the beach to the other staring and sometimes even taking photos. It has obviously caused some problems in the past as every once in a while a couple of policemen walk along the beach shooing them away. Its a bit sad really as they are being told they are not allowed on their beach in their country but it is so obvious why they are there and if it was allowed I'm sure less people would visit.
That night we headed up to a rocky outcrop to watch the sunset, which turned the whole sky orange, then it was out to eat which was when Marit stood in cow poo number two of the week, this time with her bare foot. After a quick scream and a run to the sea to clean it off all was good in the world again (I'm sure somewhere in the world it is probably a very expensive beauty treatment).
The second day started off a bit badly with clouds and a torrential downpour, which we sheltered from over breakfast. By early afternoon it was glorious again so it was more beach time, desperately trying to work on the tan before heading back to snowy Europe. That evening we headed to a different set of rocks to watch the sunset, this time as well as some beautiful colours in the sky we were lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins swimming past.
We booked a train for the next afternoon and so our last day was short and sweet, one last session on the beach and in the sea before heading off to catch the train that will take us to Cochin, our last new destination in India.
Bye for now
