Last full day of the tour today. This time tomorrow weīll be at the first of our two "resort" type hotels, at little further up the coast than where we are at present. We left Merida early this morning (7.30am) in order to get to the Mayan site of Chichen Itza before the masses of tour buses arrived from Cancun.
The early departure was a good decision - the site was pretty quiet when we arrived, but hundreds of people were turning up just as we were leaving. Chichen Itza is a pretty stunning site. Similar to Palenque, with a main pyramid that dominates the entire site, but different enough with a combination of mayan and (later-mayan-tribe-whose-name-I-forget) construction.
We left Chichen Itza at about 11.30am, and from then had a couple of hours on the road to Playa Del Carmen, for our final night of the trip. Playa is very different from where we have been of late - it is packed with tourists for a start - and very much has a beach resort feel to it. The beach itself is beautiful - warm sand and the light blue Carribean Sea - but the rest of the town is a bit touristy for us. Being here certainly makes us appreciate the other cities on the trip. Donīt get me wrong, itīs a perfectly pleasant beach side place, but it just doesnīt quite have the character or charm of Antigua or San Cristobal.
Itīs about 5pm here. Tonight I think there are plans afoot for a nice dinner and few beers or cocktails to finish the trip off in an appropriate way. From tomorrow afternoon weīre at the Maroma (on the coast between here and Cancun) until Tuesday.
Much love, Us.
Ps. What on earth happened in the cricket?!

Returning home
Hi K & D,
We are not expecting any updates after today, so just wanted to say 'Enjoy the next week'.
Would you like us to pick you up from the airport? We are not doing anything until the evening, when we are coming into London for a Prom. If you don't want a lift from the airport, would you like to meet up briefly later in the day to get Kate's things back?
Lots of love,
M&D/J&I
PS You really don't want to know about the cricket!
Re: Returning home
Hi guys
We would love a lift from the airport, if you´re free! Really kind of you (and obviously we´re happy to get a cab if it is a hassle.
Thanks v much. I´ll confirm flight details when I have them to hand.
Thanks again
D.
Kate sends her love.
Returning Home
Hi K&D,
We have the details of your return flight, so, unless there are any major changes, we shall aim to be at the airport by 10am.
Lots of love,
J&I/M&D xx
Re: Returning Home
Great stuff, thanks. No major changes anticipated, so all being well, we'll see you at 10ish, at Gatwick, on the Sunday.
Thanks again!
