We arrived in Istanbul on the overnight bus from Safranbolu at 6:30 am and were fortunately able to check into our hotel for a nap.  Then it was off to the bazaars to pick up a few last souvenirs and gifts.  It was really comforting coming back to a city that we knew the general layout of and we got to leave the guide book at home.  On the way to the spice bazaar we stumbled across the original turkish delight store dating back to 1777 and obviously had to stop to sample the delicious treats.

In the afternoon I went back to the barber shop for one last shave.  Carol came to watch this time and the barber put on a real show with the razor blade (once again I lived to tell about it).  He even used a flame to trim my ear hairs (which was a little frightening at the time).  Carol was a little envious of all this special treatment I received.

Well, this has been a great trip and tomorrow we jump on our 12 hour flight to Chicago and then on to Toronto.  Hopefully the US border security in Chicago will let us pass through after all of the  exotic countries we have been to!

Carol and I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have been following our adventures (over 1200 hits on the blog to date) and it has definitely motivated us to keep writing until the end.  Thanks for reading and we will see you all soon.
