Arrived in Coban, our stop off point between flores and antigua, only to be told that the mcdonalds car park was the main square. Thankfully, we refused to believe this, and got a taxi to the centre of town, where we checked into a hostel. Sorted out a coffee tour for the following day, our principal reason for being there, and had a bit of a wander round. A few nice cafes, in one of which we ate, otherwise the standard jumble of shops and stalls and streets that seems to make up lots of central american small towns.
Returned to the hostel to find we were sharing our room with a guatemalan man, who went to bed in all his clothes around 9 o'clock without turning off the light or shutting the door. Bizarre!
Did the coffee tour the next day. Was really interesting, and was far too inefficient to be at all exploitative. Saw loads of different coffee and spice plants, as well as the machnies for roasting them and the place where the beans are soaked and dried. And drank some coffee too obviously. Prinicpal highlight of the day was me buying 2 more harry potter books in spanish though, and france crashing out of la copa. Then, after a delicious lunch, onwards to Antigua, our final stop.
