In the morning I planned on doing a boat cruise of the Lock area between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, however I decided against that as I just wanted to clear customs.
I finally got my chance for some duty free shopping!!!!! I wasn't sure how the process worked fully so I just picked up one case of Alexander Kieths (for $20 CA or $18.85 US) not bad at all. So crossing the border again I might have to do the same and stock up, although I'm pretty sure there's a limit though so I guess I'll just have to hide them a bit (in a big motor home it shouldn't be hard to do!)
My first experience driving in the USA was that of toll bridges, a means to grab more money off you as you pass through, often the only way from A to B. I drove over the International Bridge (a.k.a Mackinac Bridge), there was still quite a bit of haze in the area making the bridge appear kind of ghostly and it was quite a phenomenon driving across the bridge looking out at it too! The bridge is 8,614 feet long and is the third longest suspension bridge in the world, the longest in the western hemisphere.
I continued over the bridge and through Michigan enjoying the countryside and getting used to the new speed limits (in miles now, which is not too bad because my vehicle has large mile numbers on the speedometer and the odometer is in miles). I couldn't help but things were a little different again, especially seeing a sign on the highway saying "prison area do not pick up hitchhikers", well at least you were told!
Tomorrow I head back to the border and hopefully more duty free shopping.
