The wind blew all night long and we soon came realise a sticker that we saw in a shop yesterday was true. It said "I was blown away by Geraldton." First stop of the day was the lighthouse just around the corner from the caravan park. Then we went to the HMAS Sydney Memorial build to commemorate its sinking 1942 with the loss of 645 Australians. It wasn't until 2008 the wreck was discovered off Steep Point WA. The memorial was a great tribute with a dome of 645 metallic seagulls to represent each sailor. It was a moving experience to see all their names and a group picture before they sailed.
Afterwards we went to the WA Museum and it was brilliant and all for an entry fee of a gold donation. The section on shipwrecks was my favourite and there was so much information on the Batavia. I will have to buy the book now.
For the rest of the day we relaxed at the caravan park and cleaned before our drive to Perth.
