What a long day! Alice Springs to Tennant Creek was punctuated by stops at some weird and wonderful places. First of all we stopped at Aileron, home of Aboriginal statues (two of them giants). There was an enormous Aboriginal man holding a spear on the hill and a mother and child with a goanna. The third one was a warrior.
Next stop was Wycliffe Well, the self proclaimed UFO capital of Australia. Good on them for coming up with a tourist marketing angle! There were green men next to a space ship and all sorts of alien merchandise. We did learn about the desert crab that burrows into the sand and survives just fine on the available water.
Our last stop was the Devil's Marbles. Although the temperature was sitting at 45 degrees they were brilliant. Formed some 200 million years they were spectacular in their positioning and formation. We arrived at Tennant Creek mid afternoon and made straight for the swimming pool.
