Last full day in Alice. One morning ritual that has become apparent is the daily call of the caravan smoke alarms. Every morning there is a constant chorus set off by travellers burning their toast!
Another very hot today so we decided to go into town and complete the heritage trail walk and do some shopping at Todd Mall early. We saw Hartley Street School the first purpose built school in Alice Springs, the old gaol and a building simply called The Residence which hosted a visit from the Queen and a young Prince Charles. We bought some Aboriginal artwork and a book about John McDouall Stuart the famous explorer who the Stuart Highway was named after and Alice Springs was originally called Stuart Town.
The afternoon saw more time at the pool without the Rosebud students this time much to Chloe and Emmy's relief. Our final tourist activities were to visit the Ghan train station (which was closed) and the Bush Telegraph Reserve which is based at the site of Alice Springs waterhole and where the town derived its name from. The Overland Telegraph consisted of 36 000 poles from Adelaide to Darwin and then a submarine cable went from Darwin to Singapore. This connected Australia with the world.
Chloe and I went to watch the Central Australia Red Tails in their first ever game in the NTFL at Traeger Park. They won! It was very entertaining watching and listening to the crowd and their comments. The Green Machine of St Mary's jad a good lead but 'our' team reeled them in. Footy is such a great cultural connector in the Alice.

Hi to you all. Glad to hear you have not killed each other yet. I have just caught up with your first 2 weeks and it sounds like you are having a fantastic time. I am very jealous. You have already covered some distance and still have many more to go. Hard to believe school holidays are already over and Chloe, I have Aimee in bed at 715pm. Not bad huh! Much to her disgust. I tried for earlier but did find some resistance!!!
Well glad to hear you are all safe and well. You must have fantastic tans by now with all that swimming.
Take care
Vicki
