Today I woke up excited at the thought that I was going to the historic circuit of Watkins glen and drive the track that the some of the greatest formula one drivers have driven. The likes of James Hunt, Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill have all raced here in the 60's and 70's. So we leave Ithaca and travel the 20 odd miles to the track and pull to the gates of the track and this guy comes out and says "sorry, we're closed for the season. If you were here last Sunday you could have driven the track". This was disappointing to say the least but managed to get some photos of the track from the road.

We then drove into Watkins Glen, a small village beside Seneca lake that hosts car events and races through the streets. Some of the stores sell merchandise from the classic races and we picked up a few items. The village has a lot of racing history with some great murals painted on the side of the buildings.

Watkins Glen also has a state park which has a 2 mile long narrow gorge with waterfalls, bridges and tunnels. We were amazed how beautiful this park is and it feels like should be in a Lord of the Rings movie. As you can see from the photos it really is a fantastic place. We even saw a woman who was in our glass making group, which was weird.

After the 2 mile walk around the park we left for the glass museum at Corning to pick up our works of art. We were very pleased with the finished pieces and even met up with the woman from the park. With a few hours free now that the track drive was off, the girls wanted to go to a nearby mall. It's amazing that all the malls we've been to this holiday they all look exactly the same!

On the food front we had a quiet day as tomorrow is the day of the challenge. We decided to go to Wendy's for a burger but a load of kids in the queue put us off and we went next door to an Arby's. Arby's don't do burgers but put cuts of real meat in a roll, which is different but very tasty. They also do curly fries which are better than some other fast food fries!

Tomorrow we a back in Syracuse for the weekend to see our friends.
