From the lonely planets advice we didn't take the long windy route to Puerto Escondido on public buses, we took private buses on the quicker 6.5 hour journey (to travel 250kn) along the highway which was the mosy direct route. It was anything but straight, quick or what I would call a highway. For 5.5 hours we winded through these terrible roads going up and down these amazing mountains. The views were really amazing but we got over it within the hour. I managed to get a bit of sleep and Shaylie spent most of the time concentrating on the road to make sure she was not sick. We finally made it and found a cool little hotel renting cabanas across from the Playa Zicatela, the Mexican pipeline. The waves were about 3 metres the whole time we were there but can apparently hold upto 12 metres on a good day, either way the surfing was way too advanced for me. Puerto is a really laid back nice small surf town, people staying at the same hotel had been there for weeks, apparently most people just hang out surf and drink. We spent the days relaxing at the beach or by the pool, nights watching the sunset over the surf from at one of the beach restraunts. It's a great plae, I would hve been easy to stay longer there but was time to head off to San Cristobal.
