When we arrived in Madrid, I had no idea what to expect. When we got there though, I almost felt at home. Despite obvious language differences, I don't think I've been to a City that has a closer 'vibe' to that of Melbourne. It's lively and exciting, but also fairly laid back - very cool indeed!

Another similarity Madrid shares with Melbourne, is that it didn't seem to be a place to go for site seeing, as there weren't too many major monuments or world famous museum's to see (ironically, the one famous gallery had sent it's major Picasso works to Melbourne!). The most exciting place for me, was the massive park in the City, where young people and families gathered. I went once, during the day, and there were puppet shows, street performers, market stalls and also facilities for people to row small boats on the man-made lake.
In the evening though, the park was a completely different place. There were around two dozen people playing drums together in a square, with another couple of hundred people sitting, or walking around in what can best be described as a festival atmosphere - this on a regular Sunday night!

We also went to a great Pirate themed bar, and drank too much!
