For the past 4 days, I've been in Toronto with family: some of whom I've never met before and others, who I've met once or twice. So far, it's been fantastic, and I've really enjoyed getting to know them, and been touched by the way that they have welcomed me.
Since I've been here, they've been filling most of my time up with trips around the City, and today's adventure was a subway ride to Toronto's 'Down Town' area. There, we explored the Toronto Underground and the CN Tower.
I found out today that the CN Tower is the worlds tallest building, and that it includes the worlds tallest viewing gallery, which is around 450 meters up in the air. It cost around CAD$26 each to ride the lifts up - so it was quite expensive - and because it's peak tourist season here, we had to queue for a full hour to get to the highest platform. There was a lot of fog/smog over the City today and the visibility was reduced to only a couple of kilometers, but it was still quite nice to be up there. I'm told that on a clear day, you can see all the way across to the United States! All in all, I don't think I'd go again, but I'm still glad I did it today.
Another thing that Toronto is famous for is it's great lakes - they're massive, great big wet things that take up much of the country. It's also famous for it's cottage culture, where every summer, the residents drive out to their lakeside cottages to spend time in the sun. This weekend, we will be doing this and next week, we're doing a trip to Niagra falls via some Canadian wineries - bliss!
