The weather is cold.  although fine and clear it will be only 49 F today and tonight 29 F.  For points southwest of here, including the Florida panhandle there is a hard freeze warning and temperatures are forecast to be 23 to 27 F.  We are glad we have the electric space heater for while we are in a marina and the propane heater for while we are at anchor.  At least it is fine and clear but the wind is forecast to blow today so it will probably feel colder than it really is.

While having a pleasant lie in on Saturday there was a knock on the hull and we were told we had to move to another slip.  No problem when there are people to help with lines - almost a necessity with  floating docks.  Saturday continued stormy and it rained hard in the afternoon.  We hired a car from Enterprise, did some shopping and used the map the lady who had picked us up and taken us to the rental office had found for us.  She was from New Mexico and was retired American style with a part time job.  In the evening we went to a cook out organized by the liveaboard couple on the Hunter next to us.  Met some pleasant people - mostly from trawlers.  Heard harrowing stories of rough weather in Albermarle Sound and a fouled anchor in Mile Hammock Bay. Had some drinks with the locals in the marina bar.

On Sunday after a late start  and lunch at the marina restaurant we drove the car to Harbor Island.  Very beautiful country but very lonely and lightly populated.  On the PBS TV that evening there were several programs about the nature and ecology of the area by local universities so now we know quite a lot about the low country area which is what the coastal plain is known as.

On Monday morning Dave managed to lock us out of the boat when the key chain broke and the boat key plopped into the water.  The usual spare key had not been put back.  No locksmiths were availble so after a little while we figured out how to get in without causing any damage.  Spare key has been restored for future use!  We went to Beaufort and looked around.  Had a soda and ice cream and then drove off to Hilton Head with ideas of walking on the board-walk or beach.  If access is available we did not find it.  Everything is gated.  A few views of sounds and creeks.  For those visiting by car Hilton Head can be summarized as "a strip mall in a pine forest",  Found a Fresh Market store and bought some food.  Got back to the boat very hungry - our ice cream and soda for lunch in Beaufort was all used up.  We ate the sushi we had bought in Hilton Head before cooking our dinner.

Plan for today is to keep warm!  The survey in Savannh should take place tomorrow and hopefully, weather permitting, we can be moving again on the 20th.
