Saturday 21 – A long way to start the walk

We had a nice breakfast looking out over the islands in San Sebastion bay. Danny dropped me at the bus station while he went to drop the car back at Henda airport.  I sat on a shady seat and did some people watching

Danny arrived at 12.15 in time to get on the full bus to Bilbao.  It was a hot and stuffy ride and we got to Bilbao around 1.45.

We put our big bags into the bus station security and tried to walk around with our other six bags but it was too hot and the bags too heavy.  We tried to log onto a wifi site without success and very frustrating.  It was also 30 degrees which didn't help.

I sat and read some more while Danny went in a profitless search of an internet café.

We returned to the bus station with its milling, smoking, Kiss fans in town for the concert and waited for Kate, our guide, to arrive which she did before 3.30pm.

We traveled with her to Santander airport where we waited for some of the other walkers: Roy, Janet and Joe (their grandson) to arrive.

We had a quick turnaround in our room which was nice with big terracotta floor tiles and we were at dinner at a restaurant across the road.

Hot mushroom salad, cheese and then ox for me and clams and beans for Danny all washed down with Rioja.  A perfect meal at the end of a big day.
