Wednesday 18 – That long and winding road that leads to Perigueux

It was a very long drive; over 8 and a half hours. The only saving grace was that the roads were good and the further west we went the prettier the countryside became. We crossed some massive bridges spanning deep valleys and saw the hillside covered in yellow flowering gorse. The hotel is nowhere near as big as it looked on the internet but it is clean, the room is a good size and we have good internet. Hooray.

Went for a quick walk around town which we didn’t find very exciting. Dinner was had next to the cinema complex and we were able to eat in the twilight until 10 pm. Reading the menu was a bit tricky as I had left my reading glasses in Strasbourg!

Thursday 19 – The nicest place to see – South West France

Decided to go to St-Jen-de-Cole as it is one of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Half an hour drive through pretty countryside in the sunshine and we were there. It is a pretty little hamlet with lots of houses with climbing roses and a babbling stream and a stone bridge.

We then chose to go to Brantome. It was one of the nicest villages we had ever seen. We had lunch on the banks of the river. It was a nice relaxed time in the sunshine at tables under the leafy vines. It has a large chateau a large bubbling stream with a little stone bridge. Some of the stores were inside the rock face fitted out in little caves.
