Daniel here:

Well today we took our scenic train ride through switzerland.  We took a few different trains before boarding our scenic train in a small village in the south of Switzerland.  The train was great and had special panoramic windows installed so that you could make the most of the views.

The train trip took around 2 hours and took us through some amazing countryside.  The mountains were massive and broken up by thick forests of snow covered christmas trees and deep valleys with fast flowing rivers at the bottom.  Unfortunately our photos and video do very poor justice to the spectacular scenery we saw.  It was obviously the best train trip I have every done so thank you so much Roderick, Kelly and Grandma and Granddad Brown.  Even the houses we saw were amazing.  They all looked like little gingerbread houses with snow covering their roof and little puffs of smoke coming out of the chimmeny.

The train took us to Montreux which is in the French part of Switzerland on the shores of lake Geneva.  The lake is that largest in western Europe and surrounded by little Swiss and French villages.  We also visited Chatteux Chillon which is an old castle on the edge of the lake used by the Bernese during the 15th century. It was a classic medieval castle with turrets and enclosed couryards.  It also had great views over the lake from the top turret.

We took the express train back to Bern and arrived back home to freshly made pizza (dough included) which Nathan and Alison had made for our dinner.  They spoil us and the pizza was very tasty.

Oh on the way to the train station we stopped at a local chocolate shop which I could have spent a fortune in.  There were so many chocolates in large sheets which you could buy by the kilo.  I bought a small sample pack a it still set me back around $15 for a few pieces so it is the sort of chocolate I will have to eat slowly!

Really loving Switzerland especially the scenery.

Aunty Pete on

Sending a warm hello to you guys. It was interesting to read about this part of your trip as I had been looking at Alison and Nathan's photos on facebook of exactly those places when Aunty Wendy and David were there! So even without your pictures I could imagine just where you'd been! It sounds as if this part of your trip, although busy, has been fairly relaxed and easy - sort of a holiday within a holiday. Take care of each other, xoxo
