After a well earned rest we woke up and ate the rest of the leftover pizza from last night which reminded us of many a morning back at Plantin! After we all showered and packed up we walked the couple of blocks to the car.  The sun was out again and the temperature was topping 90 fahrenheit already at 11 in the morning. All I can say is thank god for A/C and as Dave settled down in the drivers seat of the Meatmobile we set the sat nav, affectionately named Jerry, to take us north to Baltimore.Dave and Dan are big fans of the gritty, highly acclaimed series 'The Wire' and were particularly looking forward to seeing some of the sets from the programme, which was filmed almost entirely in this city. When we arrived in central Baltimore, we were fairly disappointed to see a normal and fairly prosperous looking city. This wasnt what we were here to see. So, Dan being the excellent organiser he is, had saved an address on his phone and Jerry duly took us towards it.
When we got there, we instantly recognised the liquor stores, the hobos, the shady looking people and the drug dealers loitering on a few of the corners. In particular we saw the boarded up houses where Marlo, Chris and Snoop hid the people they had murdered in series 5. We stayed in the car throughout because we would have looked slightly out of place as we had forgotten our du-rags, baggy white tees and even baggier shorts! It really was an experience seeing the level of deprivation in this area - a lot worse than some of the notoriously deprived areas of Nottingham.

After half an hour driving round (with Dan stealthily taking pictures like an undercover cop) we decided to head on to our next stop for the day, Philadelphia.About 50 miles from Philly along the I-1 we saw signs for the Ball & Thistle pub and as it was about 3pm we decided to stop for a look and hopefully some good grub.  The pub turned out to be attached to a very nice golf course named the Wyncote Golf Club. The parking lot, filled with pretty expensive looking cars, made us question if we should give it a miss and head to our usual stop of a Wendy's or Arby's etc but we decided to park up and have a look around anyway. We were very glad we did go in as it was a very nice place and we were the only ones in there when we took up a table in the downstairs resturant. 2 steak sandwiches and a fish and chips were ordered and the waitress, a very friendly lady, chatted to us about our trip. When we said we were on our way to Philly she was a little concerned as she told us about the 2-3 murders a day that take place in the city. After a very nice lunch we were back on the road and soon within Philadelphia city limits. The high rise buildings and beautiful bridges were a welcome change from the monotony of the highways and interstates. We found a place to park right in the middle of the city and went for a walk around. It was a lovely city with a lot of history and features in numerous films including the famous scene in Rocky where he runs up the steps of some art museum. However being as no one knew where they were, we ended up walking around guided only by Dan's enthusiasm and sheer determination to find them. Needless to say after 40 minutes we hadn't found them so headed back to the car. On the way out of Philli it was Dave's turn to head down the wrong side of the road luckily there was nothing coming and Dave quickly did a U-turn, following this we had to stop as a chair flew across the road from the strong winds moving in from a storm.
It was getting dark and the storm clouds were moving in as we crossed another state line into New Jersey. Here we found another motel and settled down with some bud lights and the Olympic highlights on the TV. Tomorrow we're going to Jersey Shore!
