Waking up and stepping out on to the balcony in the sunshine looking out at the beach is just what is needed for a groggy head, the free breakfast was also well needed as we sat out front feeding Percy the pigeon our unwanted waffles. After showering and checking out of the room we hit the beach to soak up the sun. Me and Rich opted to go for a run along the shore to try to get rid of any excess fat from our slightly unhealthy American diet. Only an hour had passed before we heard a rumble of thunder and took a look behind to see some approaching black clouds. This was a pretty short sharp shower although we got a bit soaked as we ran for shelter in our car.

Despite it being such a nice place we needed to head further up the coast. Rich took up the driving as we headed for Savannah, Georgia and the chance to cross our first state line and wave goodbye to a fantastic four days in Florida and possibly a stop at Hilton Head Island if we had time before our final destination of Charleston, SC. Savannah is ranked as 'the most beautiful city in America', although we didn't see much of this apart from the Savannah Sand Gnats baseball ground, who are a semi pro team that are affiliated with the New York Mets (who incidentally we are hoping to go see next week). After standing on a red ant nest and getting bitten half to death as I took a picture of the stadium, we quickly left the city no sooner had we arrived, with just time for a quick stop of at a Krystal for drink, some fries and a lemon pie (although service was far from speedy by the Rhianna lookalike).

No time to stop at Hilton Head so we set the sat-nav to take us to one of the restaurants as featured in 'Man vs Food' hoping to find a challenge that Rich could take on. The first one we tried was too busy and didn't look too appealing however the Tattooed Moose in North Charleston was ideal, with board games such as 'Guess Who' and 'Connect 4' to play while we waited for our Duck and Turkey filled sandwiches. This place also had a good drink selection plus pens to draw on the outside terrace and in the toilets, sort of suited the area which seemed to be a very traditional America town with a college/university feel to it. No food challenge here but can't wait to watch the episode again when we get home. It was getting dark and with lightening flashing across the cloudy sky we headed for our first trip to a Walmart to stock up on drink and get a cooler so we could take it to the beach the following day. Very quickly found a Days Inn motel at a good price so stopped here just to get our heads down.
