Alas, the journey officially began today with a little help from a visit to Starbucks for a grande coffee and about two hours of mulling over which flight to pull the trigger on. Successfully (and finally) cashing in my long dormant credit card points, I was left with a relatively comfortable fare to cover with my now magical unemployment checks appearing weekly in my mailbox. Departure date: Feb 24, 2011. 19 hours and 40 minutes of flight, one hour and 15 minutes at Hong Kong International attempting to learn to walk again and finding my next flight (not to mention a brash realization that I am on the other side of Earth), and two hours and 50 minutes of more flying later - Bangkok.
With my good friend Jason arriving in the early March time frame, I plan to take that first week of solo exploration not only literally, but figuratively. I owe it to myself to, as my amazing and influential mother puts it, 'jump and let the net appear.' I leave behind more than most people in the world will ever have; a great girlfriend, job, band, house, car (go Big Red!), and cell phone (yes I admit it has a hold on me) - but this is the point, and I can't wait. It's not often that we can fully rid ourselves of all that surrounds us to truly discover who we really are.
