Howdy folks,

With the Christmas countdown on, it seems like there is something new happening just about every day. For example there has been a positive spike in the number of Christmas Cards I've received including: Dave Ashforth from UK, Martin and Louise Pinno from Australia, Thomas Vafiadis from Australia, Damian and Birgit Andrews from Adelaide and a wonderful package from father dearest Rainer, Carol, Hannah and Jimbo. I guess it pays to tell everybody that you want a Christmas Card from them! To everybody else, you still have time...

I was quite pleased with the box of Australian goodies which included: Vegemite (an Australian  breakfast spread), The Advertiser newspaper (still rubbish), an umbrella hat (wouldn't be caught dead in it), an Adelaide calendar plus a variety of souvenirs including magnets, pins and stickers.
But come on people, no tim tams?

On Thursday was Nikolaus Tag which is a day where a man dressed as Santa Claus comes with his sack and golden book with the Christkind. He reads out each child's name and the naughty and nice things that they've done over the year and awards them with a present. There were a lot of people that came over for dinner and everyone got a small gift. Its a pity I didn't grow up in Germany, I could have had double the presents!

It started snowing this week and we had a few good days although nothing like Canada. On Sunday I went out to play soccer with Christian and it was a chilly -2 degrees Celsius. Snow and soccer is definitely a new concept for me! We had about half the people as the weeks previously, so I guess only the devoted are game. When I got home the in laws were busy baking up a storm. Every year they set aside one day to bake as many biscuit recipies as they can for the Christmas break. They picked 12 recipies this year and I think managed to get 10 done. Not bad really for 6 hours work!

I helped out a little bit, but I was more focused in making a snowball the envy of every kid on the block! Unfortunately I ran out of powder in the small backyard, but still came away with a good result. I don't think it will last the week though!
