Howdy folks,

Our last day in New York was no less hectic than the other two, but at least we got off to a relaxing start. We started off with the 11:30am semi-circle cruise at the Circle Line Pier. I went there an hour early to get the tickets while the girls put the suitcases in storage and meanwhile I checked out the Intrepid Museum which is a giant World War Two aircraft carrier turned aviation museum and one of the landmarks of the waterfront. Unfortunately the line-up was a mile long, but I did get a peek at a few of the cruise ships docked nearby that were massive.

The girls arrived in the nick of time and we jumped on board and cruised out onto the Hudson River. In the distance we saw the George Washington Bridge. It was a great chance to see the skyline around the island and soon we were heading out towards the Statue of Liberty. It was smaller than I thought, but still just as iconic. Soon we headed around towards the bridges to Long Island: Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg. We went as far as the United Nations before turning back around.

After 2 hours, we were ready to get off the boat as the wind was a little chilly. We didn't have much time left before we had to get Steffi to the airport so we caught the subway down to the World Trade Center. After seeing the attacks on TV it was a bit surreal to see Ground Zero in real life. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to go into have a look at the memorial, but there were so many people around anyways. We took a quick walk down Wall Street which was very narrow and the New York Stock Exchange was quite impressive. After eventually finding the giant bull statue, we had to make it back to the suitcases. We spent the next hour travelling on the subway and air train to JFK airport where Steffi checked in. There wasn’t any bar or restaurant in the terminal so we had to go to the next terminal just to find one. The whole airport is pretty big and it wasn’t exactly cheap to travel out there and back again, but Steffi made it to her plane.

We were pretty tired and it took an hour to make it back to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Because the gate was different for our bus, we ended up getting the regular service instead of the express and it took an additional hour to get back to the hotel. But as they say, "All’s well that ends well."
