Howdy folks,
Last Friday, Kylie hired a car to go and see the ice sculptures at Lake Louise and took Adam and Dave with her. Before she dropped the car back on Saturday morning, we drove out to Lake Minnewanka to see the sunrise. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a sunrise as the rising sun was obscured by the mountains, but it was still cool to see the frozen lake. Dave went down to test out the ice thickness and thankfully didn't fall in. On the way back, we stopped at Two Jack Lake and on the side of the highway there was a herd of up to 100 elk grazing in a meadow. I've never seen so many elk together at once and it was a cool sight to behold.
Work was fairly uneventful this week and we didn't get up to too much over the weekend. On Wednesday morning, I finished work at 7am and went home to sleep until 9am before getting ready to go snowboarding. I put my board in for a fresh wax which cost $50 and bought some ex-rental boots for $40 to replace the ones that were falling apart. The gondola ride up to the village seemed slow, but the day was quite mild and the weather was good. We went up Strawberry a few times then I showed Steffie Mt Standish which is one of my favourites. There is a little jump at the bottom of it which I tried a few times and managed to get a few inches off the ground which is better than nothing!
By the afternoon, Steffie and I were both getting pretty tired and she had a few hard falls so we called it quits. I did a few more runs and did the ski out while Steffie caught the gondola back down. I was pretty sore and tired so I had a nap before going out for a few beers and a game of pool!
