Howdy folks,

Well it was a big week in the life of Dan. After the successes of snowboarding last week, I decided to go and purchase my very own snowboard. I already had a pair of second hand bindings and I went into the ski rental store to buy an ex-rental board. Luckily they had one in my size and I picked it up for $105. There was a spare pair of boots down in the laundry so I tried those on and they seemed to fit me. I was now set up!

I worked an afternoon shift on Tuesday so I could get some sleep before heading up the hill on Wednesday morning. There turned out to be a few of us going up including Steffie, Zuzana, Jenny, Shelby and myself. Steffie and I started out on our usual run to get warmed up and before long we were putting our training into practice. We also tried going on the Rock Isle Road which had less people on it. After lunch, I went up the Angel lift with Zuzana, Jenny and Shelby which is higher and longer. It was still a green run, but it felt a bit steeper in some sections. I fell over a few times and sprained my shoulder, but nothing was broken. Steffie and I called an early day and took the 2:30pm bus back to Banff.

On Thursday, Randy joined Steffie and I for the trip up although he had brought a pair of skis this time. Steffie did a lot better on her runs than the previous day and even exited the chairlift successfully each time. I did a bit more practice on my toe edge and after lunch I went up the Standish Lift. At the top of the mountain is part of the official boarder of British Columbia and Alberta which runs along the watershed or mountain ridgeline. The run wasn't so great because there was ice in some sections and deep snow in others plus the undulating terrain wasn't really suitable for a beginner snowboarder. I finished the day somewhat sore and frustrated, but noting that progress had still been made.

Steffie and I went up to the gym for a relaxing swim afterwards and joined Adam for deep fried pickles at Tommys. Finally we headed to an exciting game of bingo at the Legion and although I didn't win, I came frustratingly close a few times.

Now for the countdown to my first white Christmas!
