Howdy folks,
Well it was my first Halloween this year and many new and exciting challenges presented themselves. How do you carve a pumpkin face? What costume should you wear when its freezing? How do you make fake blood?
First we started with the pumpkin which Dave and Steffie prepared. Using some tips from the pumpkin carving night at the Banff Life halloween night, we started by drawing the face and lid onto the pumpkin. With a sharp knife, Dave cut the lid off and Steffie made the face. With a salad server, we carved out the pumpkin and put in a candle. Couldn't be simpler!
Secondly we came up with a costume. I didn't want to go all out and buy a new costume, so I decided to buy a tie and top hat to go with my waistcoast and become an undertaker. I got up at 3pm this afternoon and got my outfit together. Then I had to go upstairs to help Dave. He was thinking of being Jason from the horror movies, but decided to become a zombie instead. So to do this we needed to make up some fake blood. Using a mixture of icing sugar, flour, food colouring and soy sauce we came up with a nice gluggy mixture which we smeared over his shirt.
Next came the makeup. Without makeup I would just look well dressed, so I decided to have a bit of a white face with some dark rings around my eyes. Steffie expertly prepared my black nails and set to work applying the makeup. I can't believe that women put makeup on every day, it is so fiddley and eyeliner is a pain in the ass to put on let alone have put on. But in the end it was worth it as we all looked super hot and pretty cool. After a few drinks and some happy snaps, it was time to hit the town.
I didn't have much time before I had to go to work at 11pm so we went to the Paddock Pub straight away. It was pretty dead (no pun intended) when we arrived at 8pm so we just sat down and had a drink, but I did manage to get Steffie onto the dance floor eventually. But after a few hours I had to leave. I didn't want to take off all the makeup so I went into work with my costume still on. The hotel is at 5% occupancy at the moment, so I don't think it will be a problem.
