Tuesday Morning was busy, I had packed my bags the night before so I could get up at 4:30am and get myself ready. After catching the Los Angeles Metro bus and train, I arrived at the Hacienda Hotel near LAX at 7am to join the Trek America Western Sun tour which I'd pre-booked. We ran through the usual briefings and got on the road just after 8am driving up past Santa Monica on the freeway which was packed with peak hour traffic. There are 12 people on my tour plus Vern the tour leader and we drove up to Santa Barbara for lunch. We were dropped off at the top of State Street and walked down towards the Pier where we had lunch. It is a quite affluent seaside city although it reminded me a little of Port Lincoln. Our intended destination that night was a campsite at Pismo Beach, but it was closed due to flooding so we continued up the coast to Montana De Oro State Park where the weather turned back to the sea fog which we had encountered when we left Los Angeles. We set up the tents and explored the local beach before cooking dinner and relaxing around the campfire. I had an early night because of my early start.

The next morning the fog was still hanging around and we discovered that a few racoons had visited the Fruit Loops box in the middle of the night. After packing up the tents and having breakfast, we hit the road and after stopping briefly in Salinas, we arrived in San Francisco in early afternoon. We stopped at the Embarcadero near the Bay Bridge for a little walk around the wharf and the sea lions camped on Pier 39. We drove out over the Golden Gate Bridge which was amazing and got to walk back to the other side. It was a little sad to see that the emergency phones doubled as crisis care hotlines given the location. As we neared the end we even saw a few surfers catching waves as they crashed into the pylon and rounded the bay. We finished up at Alamo Square with a view of the Painted Ladies and the city centre. Checking in at the Good Hotel on Market Street, we went to a Thai restaurant for dinner followed by a drink at The View Bar at the Marriott Marquis. A good day!
