I decided that if I wasn't going to Disneyland that I would have to do Universal Studios instead. I walked up Hollywood Boulevard and bought a ticket from a Starline Tours stand because they said they would transfer me for nothing (good because the ticket cost $74) rather than negotiating the LA Metro system. So at 10:30am I was standing in front of the Universal Studios globe waiting to enter. Universal Studios is a working movie set although I didn't do the tour of the facilities, but the theme park side of it is separate to the rest so you aren't exactly walking through the studios. I decided to do all the rides so I went on the Shrek 4D, Jurrasic Park, The Mummy, Terminator 2 and The Simpsons rides which were all pretty good and each one was different. I was pretty lucky because it was a weekday the lines were pretty short. For $20 I bought an all you can eat pass (lunch and dinner) but the food wasn't great (theme park food). A few of the other good things I saw was the Blues Brothers music show (complete with authentic car), a show on Special Effects which was hilarious and the Waterworld live action show which was pretty amazing. All up it was a pretty good day.

Yesterday I decided to go to the Huntington Gardens and Gallery which was out in Pasadena (doesn't look far on the map!). I went for a 1 hour walking tour of Hollywood in the morning (as the only one on the tour) which was interesting to see where they film the Oscars and inside facts about it. I then jumped on the LA Metro and caught the train to Central Station and then transferred to the Pasadena train. The trains are pretty efficient although there weren't many lines (more buses then trains). In fact all the buses have bicycle racks on the front of them so if you want to ride then cycle you can! I got off in Pasadena which is like a completely different world than Hollywood. Everything was so clean and there were hardly any people on the streets. To cut a long story short, I missed the connecting bus to the Huntington so I went to a local contemporary gallery which wasn't that great, had an overpriced sandwich (remembering to tip) and caught the train back into downtown. I decided to have a little look around downtown so I went to the old Spanish quarter which was cool and past City Hall and the Walt Disney Music Centre. After such a lot of travelling I thought an early night was in order so after a few relaxing beers, I hit the sack.

Today I'm hoping to try and make it out to the Getty Centre and finalise my accommodation before jumping on the tour bus on the 15th!

Just loving this travel blog. That Walt Disney Music Centre looks an impressive building. Am just home cooking pizza bases for freezing. It's a public holiday. Being pretty lazy about it be honest. Bought a food dehydrator so we spent yesterday drying prune plums, standard plums and tomatoes and all in all, pretty successful and yummy. Am going to try doing some pears next weekend. Keep up the posts. Renovations going well. 9th move to 9th on Friday 18th. Purchased all the Ikea stuff on Friday last and it's getting delivered tomorrow. Woo hoo - it's taking up loads of my time so will be happy when all done. Take care. r

What nothing happened in the last five days! Or just too busy having a blast! Who would have thought that the yanks would have bike racks on their buses. Good to see you're having a good time. Let me know when you have an internet connection and we can do a skype sesh. Looking forward to the next blog entry :)
