Well it has definitely been an interesting few days! On Monday I caught the midday train down to Geelong to see my cousins the Jacksons and stay a few days. We had a nice roast dinner on Monday night and sang happy birthday to my cousin Samantha who turned 9! Parker the Corgi also turned 5.

On Tuesday I was given the car for the day so I decided on making the most of the day. I travelled 20kms south to Torquay where the big surf shops are. I had a look at the information desk before taking a walk out to The Esplanade for a few photos. I jumped back in the car and travelled past Bells Beach to Point Addis which was very pretty. I went through Anglesea and stopped off at the lighthouse at Airey's Inslet and did a tour which just happened to be the same lighthouse used on the Round the Twist TV Show. Just down the road I stopped by the roadside to gaze up at the house on the pole and a couple of hang gliders who were just hanging in the air supported by the strong ocean breeze. I only got as far as Lorne where I was told that Christchurch had been hit with another earthquake so I decided to come back. Dinner that night was deliciously made spaghetti and meatballs.

On Wednesday the kids had parent/teacher interviews so I decided to go into Geelong to the shopping centre and take a look at the Botanic Gardens as well. They were really cool and it was very relaxing to walk around the shady areas past the historic shelters and garden sculptures. I should have stopped for a scone and tea at the garden cafe but it was time to go back, The rest of the afternoon was spent taking a trip to an outdoors store to get hiking equipment for Rachel and we went out to the local park for a picnic dinner.

Finally this morning I left and caught the bus into the main Geelong railway station where I arrived back in Melbourne at noon. Liz had the day off and we went down to Southbank for lunch and icecream before spending a few hours at the DFO (new belt woo hoo) and having a lazy night in tonight. I will have to see what my options are given that I'm supposed to be flying to Christchurch on Tuesday although I haven't booked any accommodation in yet.
